But Broxbourne rapids will cost £30m
The man responsible for making sure all the Olympic venues are built on time says Broxbourne's canoe slalom won't become a white elephant when the Games are over.
John Armitt, who's in charge of the Olympic Delivery Authority, has been overseeing the start of construction work at Lee Valley Regional Park. He says the Games will leave a strong legacy for Hertfordshire, with local people able to use the water course.
The 20-hectare site will consist of a large artificial lake made of concrete, with a three hundred metre course.
The rapids will cost £30m - double the original estimate.
