Benedict Smith
Benedict is the presenter of The Big Drive Home on Hertbeat FM. Check it out each weekday afternoon from 4pm.
Birthplace? Tunbridge Wells in Kent (although my ancestors were farmers from Tewin and Bramfield).
School nickname? Ben
Favourite film? Avatar is the nearest thing in recent years.
Favourite TV show? These questions are too difficult. I don't like to be tied down by one show or movie. I love well-written dramas and comedy panel games like Nevermind the Buzzcocks.
Favourite band? Finally an easy question - Muse.
What is your favourite town in Hertfordshire? The county town of Hertford (where I live).
If you were not a radio presenter, what job would you want to have? I wish I knew the answer to this and then I'd probably go and do it. However, radio has a hold on me for now.
What is the most you've ever paid for a pair of shoes? £90. I tend to buy a pair of Caterpillar boots, which I wear nearly every day for two years and then replace. The cost per wear must be quite good though.
What is your favourite bar or restaurant in Hertfordshire? Baroosh on Fore Street in Hertford is a great morphing place - it changes with the time of day, from bustling night venue to homely place to relax with the Sunday papers. Oh, and what about The George and Dragon in Watton-at-Stone? That's a cracking place to eat.
Who's the most famous person you've ever met? Um, probably my best claim to fame would be that I went to the same primary school as Roger Daltrey's kids and so I saw him a fair amount (although I always thought he was most famous for appearing in an episode of Little and Large).
Funniest mishap on-air? Bringing a heater into the studio and saying I bet when I plug this in the station will go off-air. Needless to say it did.
The gadget I use the most is? A grapefruit knife - life doesn't get much better than a chilled pink grapefruit with some sugar sprinkled on top.
Eastenders or Coronation Street? I'd rather put in a pair of contact lenses whilst eating a lemon than watch either.
I love Hertbeat because...? It's independent and has a refreshing identity.
